This is one of the great traditional women’s holidays which pays tribute to midwives and young mothers. It is celebrated mainly in honor and respect for the old women as well as to the health of the small children and young mothers. On the feast’s eve or early in the morning on the very day, young wives are visited by the midwives who have helped them at childbirth (babuvane). The midwives organized a rich dinner table and all women gathered around it. An interesting tradition on this day is the ritual of making a tall pile of dough nuts put one on top of the other so that the midwife hides behind it making wishes.
